The online Reading Challenges are open to North Dakota residents of all ages. With Beanstack, you can track your reading and receive virtual badges.

Here are the current reading challenges available:

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - Fairy Tale Theme (Ongoing)

Ages 0-5

Enjoy reading 1,000 books with your little ones! Log reading and earn badges all along the way. Encourage a lifetime love of reading for your child.

100 Books Before Graduation (Ongoing)

Ages: 6th Grade – 12th Grade

The more you read, the more you know! Join this challenge and read 100 books before graduating! Log your reading in Beanstack, and earn a new set of badges!

500 Books Before Middle School (Ongoing)

Ages: Kindergarten – 6th Grade

Can you read 500 books before middle school? You bet you can! Join this challenge and work towards new badges along the way!

Media Literacy Month (May 1-31, 2024)

Ages: Grades 5-8

There’s a lot of information online, and not all of it is accurate. But do you know how to determine the authenticity of the news you read and the content you watch? That’s where media literacy comes in! Participate in the learning activities and log your reading to become a news and digital literacy champion.

Mental Health Awareness (May 1-31, 2024)

Ages: All

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Talking and sharing about mental health can be tricky, but we're here to help #BreakTheStigma. Join us this month for our Mental Health Awareness Reading Challenge! Reading reduces stress, encourages empathy, and improves mental wellness.

Grab a good book and check out resources and activities to help on your mental health journey. Log your reading and activities to earn badges all month long.

Smokey Bear Reading Challenge (January 1 – November 28, 2024)

Ages: All

Help Smokey celebrate his 80th birthday by learning how to prevent wildfires and help the environment! Read 3 books on wildfire prevention or the environment and earn 4 activity badges to complete the challenge and earn your prize! Start by taking Smokey’s Pledge. Badges are earned by completing at least one activity in each section. You can select books from Smokey's Reading List at smokeybear.com, or choose your own.

ND Teens Read Challenge 2023-2024 (August 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024)

Ages: 10-19

Do you have what it takes to be a North Dakota Teen Reader? Join this challenge and diversify your reading materials! From award nominees to BookTok picks, this challenge will have you reading all sorts of different titles.
